INFRARED IC HEATER T962

INFRARED IC HEATER T962

Product Description:
The INFRARED IC HEATER T962 is a micro processor controlled reflow-oven. It can be used for effectively soldering various SMD and BGA components. The whole soldering process can be completed automatically and it is very easy to use. This machine uses a powerful infrared emission and circulation of the hot air flow, so the temperature is being kept very accurate and evenly distributed.

A windowed drawer is designed to hold the work-piece, and allows safe soldering techniques and the manipulation of SMDBGA and other small electronic parts mounted on a PCB assembly. The T962 may be used to automatically rework solder to correct bad solder joints, remove / replace bad components and complete small engineering models or prototypes.

Modifying the T-962 Reflow Oven

Modifying the T-962 Reflow Oven

The T-962 is an incredibly notorious oven for its poor performance; despite being cheap, aesthetic and having some solid hardware. However now that new improved 3rd Party Firmware has been created by Unified Engineering this oven is a strong choice for using as a solder reflowing tool for hobbyists.

In this video, I'll show you the T-962 out of the box; then I'll provide recommendations on if this oven will be good for your solder reflowing applications. Finally, I provide a step by step guide on how to flash the new firmware to this oven, along with 4 other great modifications to greatly improve this oven.

T962A SMD REFLOW OVEN FIX/HACK Replace stinky masking tape

T962A SMD REFLOW OVEN FIX/HACK Replace stinky masking tape

Then there was the source of the problem - masking tape! Masking tape is used to prevent electrical shorts between the aluminum foil used to cover the insulation material and the controller PCBs. Even though there's heat insulation material beneath it, the tape gets hot enough to produce that nasty odor. So I removed all of the masking tape, and replaced it with Kapton tape, which is heat resistant.

- suggesting replacing masking tape with kapton tape.

Introduction T-962-improvements

Introduction
As we had use for a small reflow oven for a small prototype run we settled for the T-962 even after having seen the negative reviews of it as there were plenty of suggestions all across the Internet on how it could be improved including replacing the existing controller and display(!). After having had a closer look at the hardware (replacing the masking tape inside with Kapton tape first) it was obvious that there was a simple way to improve the software disaster that is the T-962.
